My Personal Daily Word Prompt For Today: EASY

I’m feeling some kind of way about people who say something is “EASY”. Since I decided to start my own business, I’ve had to come out of my comfort zone…..A LOT! Technology has always been a challenge for me because I have been at the same full-time job for over 15 years, and don’t use it on the any of the three jobs I currently hold. From the moment I made this decision, I knew the biggest challenge for me would be technology. I am aware that I must learn in order to be successful. My main challenge with learning anything new is that I get up at 3am, and work three jobs so that does not leave a lot of time to do things I really want or even need to do. So over the course of trying to learn how to blog, how to use my Smartphone, etc and asking questions, I’ve had people tell me, “Oh, that’s easy”.

Today I decided to look up the definition of EASY because I don’t understand why people feel that just because something is easy for them, means it should be easy for someone else. I thought MAYBE I am missing something since so many people have said it to me this year. I thought I was somewhat intelligent as I did stay in college long enough to receive a B.S. Degree. (yes it was in the 90’s when we were still typing our papers and going to libraries). I’m thinking maybe the definition of easy might have changed since I’ve been out of college for several years. I decided to check it out just to make sure it hasn’t changed.

Here is what I found:

Easy: achieved without great effort; presenting few difficulties.

Then I checked out synonyms, JUST to be sure I wasn’t missing something.

They are:uncomplicated, undemanding, unchallenging, effortless, painless, trouble-free, facile, simple, straightforward, elementary.

As I am going through the process of learning, none of those EASY definitions apply to me. Learning technology hasn’t been “achieved without effort”, nor is it painless or unchallenging. It’s frustrating and one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do. Now, as I look at these definitions, I’m not understanding why others feel that just because something is easy for them, means it’s easy for everyone else. It isn’t. I’m sleep deprived from a day that starts off at 3am, and having a day that ends at 8pm. Toss in three jobs, which leaves me no time to add in yet another class to learn something new. Sleep deprivation also means that sometimes I don’t even remember something that happened last week, and sometimes it could have been something that happened yesterday.

So while I have heard how “EASY” things are since I’ve decided to come out of my comfort zone and build a business that will depend highly on technology, I just want to say for myself and OTHERS that have the same challenges, that everything isn’t as easy for us, as it might appear for you. The good news is that I won’t let this struggle stop me! I have just heard that word one too many times, so thought I would toss in my two cents about it. If I had time to sit at a computer or play on a phone all day, even one entire day, building my business would be easier. I don’t, but I’m going to build it anyway, just because I’m determined too.

I won’t allow not knowing how to do something,  stop me from getting what I want in life!

NO EXCUSES! Excuses are the steps the failures are built upon! (for me!).

What’s easy for you, may not be easy for me. We have to learn to not judge each other and respect that we all have different strengths and weaknesses. Together though….with determination…we can achieve anything!

    • I love you! You have helped me more than anyone else over the course of the years, and we’ve never met in person. I appreciate you more than you know, from across the miles.

  2. PERCEPTION IS everything!.. My mom is a champion seamstress and could sew circles around me but struggles with using her computer. It doesn’t make it easy! Good for you for pushing through!

    • I appreciate YOU more than you know as well. It’s like me telling someone else, get up and work three jobs, it’s SO easy! You and I both know how hard that is! When I can just let ONE job go, I will be back in a class for blogging AND technology! I was trying to wait for not only the right time, but the TIME for real! I finally decided it’s time to just START! I will have to have on the job training for blogging and technology until I can let one job go. I know it will happen.
